MSU vs. Hawaii: Week 2, 2005 - Random Thoughts

• It is finally great to see an MSU team that has an attitude. These guys got punched in the nose and came out fighting. I don’t mean the stupid penalties that have plagued us during the Williams/Smith reigns. I mean that rather than being stupid they punched back by playing tough. That was awesome.
• Drew Stanton is a great QB that plays with a LB mentality. I love that and it makes him what he is, but it scares the hell out of me because he is so critical to this team.
• Ashton Watson is playing some great football.
• SirDarean Adams is a hell of a football player. If you want to look at someone and judge Coach Lansing and his staff’s abilities, look at this kid. He is a warrior on the field and plays with guts. This young man is only a sophomore, and is a workout machine. If he continues to workout and play hard, he could be another Julian Petersen.
• I am not a fan of Jason Teague. I just don’t have any respect for guys who participate in the off field troubles that he does. I hate to see him wear the MSU jersey. He is a great talent, but wearing that jersey means you represent the Spartan Nation, and I am not proud that he represents us. I agree with Coach Lansing who asked the media after the game: “Did you miss him? NO!” The sooner he is gone from the Spartan Nation, the better we will be.
• Javon Ringer is a stud. On the field he is all guts, and off the field he is a fine young man. As disgusted and repulsed as I am about Teague, I am that excited and proud of Ringer.
• Jerramy Scott has been a great part of this team. He is a go to guy and is playing with a toughness this season that he never showed in a game. They say big players step up, and he is!
• Eric Smith is an absolute headhunter. If he stays healthy he will continue to make a huge impact and will play on Sundays. He is a great young man and football player.
• Brandon Fields is a young man (punter) that we haven’t seen a lot of this season, but showed on Saturday why he was my pre-season, Spartan Nation, first team All American punter.
• I want to see more of Matt Trannon in this offense however. I am looking to South Bend, and seeing Matt on a fade away.
• David Stanton is a great addition to this team. Although he is a JC transfer and we only have him two seasons, he is a fine man, on and off the field.
• Ringer looked great, but make no mistake, Jehuu Caulcrick is the man.
• Drew Stanton is in my opinion one of the top three quarterbacks in the nation.
