My report, post combine on the Spartan Nation's Drew Stanton!

Hondo S. Carpenter

Spartan Nation’s Drew Stanton is watching his stock skyrocket!

Â
Being at the combine this past weekend is always a great experience. I love this time of year, as football has clearly become an all year sport. When I get to add the Spartan Nation’s Drew Stanton to the mix, it has made this year my best experience.

Â
Drew is moving up draft boards all across the NFL. I asked his agent Drew Rosenhaus about the perception that I was hearing from NFL people that he was moving up draft boards so fast and he told me "I can't say enough good things about Drew. He's a one-in-a-million guy. He's everything you're looking for in a client and I think he's the prototype
NFL quarterback. He's one of the only top quarterback prospects that’s doing everything (workouts at the combine) and I think he's going to shoot up the charts." Now some could say he is Drew’s agent and supposed to say that. I can concede their argument.

Â
Scott Linehan head coach of the Rams isn’t his agent and told me “I have watched Drew for a long time at MSU (Linehan as a JLS connection) and he is the real deal. I don’t think anyone can look at that young man and not see a star QB.”

Â
My colleague Mike O’Hara of the Detroit News was selected by the NFL to review Stanton’s workout inside the RCA Dome and he said "The thing that stood out among the guys was that he looked sharp, he looked professional, he looked polished with a very clean and very good, good delivery."
Â
I know for a fact that five NFL teams have Drew as the number one QB on their board and his stock is rising. One very well known GM that has drafted a franchise QB that is very successful told me “I obviously have a track record of success with drafting that position. I think he is a star and if I needed a QB he would be my first pick.”
Â
I do have a hilarious story that should make all Spartan fans smile. At the combine a team that has confirmed to me that he is the number one QB on their draft board interviewed Drew. When they asked Drew why he stayed at MSU rather then come out last season, the GM laughed when he told me what Drew said. “I love MSU and I always wanted to be a Spartan. I really wanted to give that school and those fans a big season. I love MSU.” The GM told me “that is why you love him. He is a passionate leader. I love that kid.” To which I told him: so does the Spartan Nation.
Â
Good luck Drew, you deserve it.

You can see my interviews with O’Hara, Rosenhaus and Linehan about Drew and many others on Thursday and Friday on Hondo’s highlights at 6:15 p.m.
