New Michigan State Football DB for 2017 Class Dominique Long Discusses Being a Spartan!

Dominique Long grew up in Westerville, Ohio, only 20, minutes away from Columbus, the heart of Buckeye territory.

When Mark Dantonio came in Buckeye territory, Long became a Spartan.

Long is a 6’2 188 pound safety who is the 13th commit of the Michigan State 2017 class, and he is a safety that can play like a linebacker.

Even though Long’s mother works for Ohio State, it was Dantonio that helped Long make his decision to come to East Lansing. He joined Hondo S. Carpenter, Sr. recently on Spartan Nation Radio to discuss his journey to the Spartan Nation.

“He looked me in the eyes, and you could tell he was a good man,” Long said. “He’s a christian, I’m a christian as well, and you could just tell he was the kind of guy you want to play for.”

Long said he received his offer from Michigan State after attending a camp in East Lansing, and it was a moment he had always dreamed about.

“It was one of the most exciting moments of my life, it was like a dream come true. I’ve just been grinding, every day, going to camps and trying to be the best player I can be,” he said. “It’s a great feeling, I’ve just been walking around a lot of places and people call me ‘The Spartan,’ so that’s pretty amazing.”

Even though he’s an important part of the future Spartan backfield, Long said Dantonio didn’t pressure him into making a decision too early.

“He was calm with me,” Long said. “He wanted to make sure that I was down for the program and that I was down for Michigan State.”

His ability to play football isn’t the only thing Long plans to utilize while at Michigan State. He said he will major in mechanical engineering while in East Lansing.

When he isn’t studying, Long will be living a dream he has had for a long time.

“I’ve been playing since forever,” he said. “I’ve always had a dream of making it to the big time, I’m just trying to stay with it.”

Although Long is now a Spartan, he can only remain optimistic about how his family will be treated when Michigan State comes to Ohio Stadium.

“I hope they give them a break in the Horseshoe,” he said. “I hope.”
