Recapping the Recruiting Weekend and Rating the 2010 Class

It appears that the Spartans will be banking two or three scholarships for next year’s loaded class as I do not expect any players to appear on their radar this late and all their other targets have committed elsewhere.

The staff had great success with this weekend getting two players to commit to the current class. They also used the weekend to offer scholarships to two more prospects for the 2011 class.

The two prospects that have picked up offers are:

Ron Tanner II – ATH – 6’1, 195 – Columbus, OH - Tanner plays QB, S, KR, and PR. He currently projects to play safety at the next level, but it doesn’t hurt having a kid who can come in and play the wildcat like Keshawn. He has good speed (4.4 – 40), an excellent vertical jump (36 in.) and excels in the class room with a GPA around 3.8. He was on campus this weekend and had a great time. He is a great kid and one of the best safeties in the Midwest. He holds Michigan State very high on his list right now.

Anthony Zettel – G – 6’4, 255 – West Branch, MI – Zettel will need to bulk up a little bit but has the strength and fundamentals to be a very good prospect. Zettel is one of the top OL in the state of Michigan and would add great depth to the Spartans offensive line.

That brings the total to 14 scholarships offered for the 2011 class. The Spartans have made great impressions on these high caliber prospects. It’s only a matter of time before one commits and gets the ball rolling on the 2011 class which has unbelievable potential.

Now let's take a look at how I rate the 2010 class assuming that all sign their letters of intent on Wednesday as expected. Please remember that Hondo will have his annual ratings tomorrow.
