Skylar Schofner finally got the chance to hit the road and travel north to Spartan Country.

The 2010 offensive tackle prospect from Big Walnut High School in central Ohio has had the Spartans on his radar for quite some time, and although he's met some of the MSU coaches at his own school, he's not had the kind of introduction a prospect gets on game day in East Lansing.

"It was a blast," Schofner told Spartan Nation. "I met Coach Dantonio and some of the other recruits. I got to meet William Gholston, Joe Boisture and it was real nice meeting some of those guys. They showed me the facilities, they showed me the dorms, you know, everything."

The trip was a positive experience for Schofner, who is still working through the time it takes to make a final decision as to which college he's going to spend the next five years of his life at. "I really enjoyed myself, just the game atmosphere and everything, it was a blast."

As for the action on the field, the Spartans represented well there, too. "I thought they played real well. They have a lot of good talent there, and the coaches are really good guys. I'm really getting close to Coach Roushar, I could like playing for him," Schofner said. He then talked about the head coach. "Coach Dantonio, he's a pretty good guy, he's pretty legit. He's turned that program around. That team up there, they really play together well, they really do."

After the game, Schofner got a tour of the locker room and spoke to a couple current players. He'll be back later this season for an official visit, but Schofner just had to come up sooner and get a taste of MSU. "Right now Michigan State is one of my stronger schools and I really like them. And so I really wanted to get up here and check them out and see what it was like instead of just watching them on TV or hearing about them, I wanted to see for myself," Schofner said. "I really wanted to get up here and check it all out and I really liked it."

Before he decides where he's going to go to college, Schofner says he's going to continue concentrating on his senior season and improving at offensive tackle. He's recorded eight pancake blocks so far this season, and he's only two games in. "Right now we're 2-0," Schofner said, adding that staying undefeated the rest of the way is the team's sole focus.

If he does decide to come to MSU, Coach Roushar will be a major factor in Schofner's decision. "He's a real good guy," Schofner said. "He really gave me a good impression. He seems like a really good coach, someone who can take me to that next level. That's what I want to do."

Setting his goals high comes naturally to Schofner, and the NFL is where he someday dreams to be. "It's always been a goal since I was a kid," Schofner said. "I want to go to college and get a scholarship and stuff, and then go from there to playing in the League. Knock on wood, that's the dream."
