Kelby Latta is a big man who plays with high energy and passion.

Kelby Latta is only a high school junior and he already checks in close to 300 pounds. The Battle Creek (Harper Creek High School) lineman is a two way star in the making and will likely crack the top ten high school prospects in the state of Michigan for the class of 2012. At 6’4”, Latta looks like a Big Ten lineman right now. He is very much cut out of the same mold as Joel Foreman and could easily become a three or four year starter on either side of the ball.

Kelby recently picked up an MSU offer and is truly excited about the Spartans. He will be camping at MSU this summer as well. We caught up with Battle Creek’s next football star and he had this to say about his MSU offer. “When I first got it, it was amazing. There’s no other feeling like your first offer. Finally everything’s paid off.”

Kelby spoke highly of his experience in East Lansing taking an opportunity to praise Spartan Stadium and the MSU fan base. “It is so loud, it is such a crazy atmosphere. You go to Michigan games and then to Michigan State games and it is louder at Michigan State games and there are 20,000 less people.”

Kelby talked with us about the time frame in which he’d like to make his college choice. “I’d kind of like to let it drag out just to see what I can get (scholarship choices). I would also like to get it over with as well so I can focus on football.” Kelby also talked about his desire to major in criminology and that will likely be a factor in his decision process as well.

Kelby Latta will garner a ton of attention. He moves fluidly. He has excellent footwork and plays low to the ground with a mean streak. He likes to run block and fits the bill of a prototypical Big Ten guard. Latta will surely be a priority for the Spartan staff and will undoubtedly receive a lot of attention. We think Latta could be the best lineman in the state of Michigan and his scholarship offers by the end of the summer camp season will reflect this as well.

We will be updating all of you throughout the recruiting season about Kelby’s status and will be following up with him after summer camp.
