SPARTANS PUSHING HARD FOR ELITE D-END

As we here at SpartanNation.com have reported multiple times over the past few weeks the Spartans are on a mission to add a Defensive End as one of the finishing pieces to their 2009 recruiting class and their newest target is arguably the most impressive of the group.

Morgan Park High School (IL) DE Craig Drummond can be defined in one word as a freak. He registered 67 tackles and 18 sacks his junior year, but missed most of his senior year with a broken leg. What makes him even more extraordinary is the fact that he was an All-American Bowl Selection this past year, despite missing so much time.

The 6’5” 260-pound monster once committed to Ron Zook’s Illinois program but has offers from all around the country. Outside of Michigan State and Illinois he lists offers from Ole Miss, Ohio State, USC, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Miami (FL), Minnesota and Florida. That list is as impressive as anyone’s and the fact that he retained all those offers through an injury-riddled season speaks to his talent as a player and a person.

Drummond is obviously being courted my many schools outside of MSU, in fact he will be paying an official visit to Ole Miss this upcoming weekend. SpartanNation.com has obtained knowledge that Drummond has been visited by some of the main members of MSU’s coaching staff within the last week and the staff is actively trying to get Drummond to re-evaluate his decision and get him to realize the benefits of going to school in East Lansing.

The Spartan coaching staff is not taking adding the last recruits lightly, not only do they hope to add a Defensive Lineman; they want to add a stud. If they don’t land Drummond Spartan fans should at the very least be impressed with their diligence in going after the best players available and not taking another player just to fill a scholarship spot.

With only two spots left, it is now a matter of seeing who takes up Coach Dantonio first.
