Stanton and Ryan were the stories at MSU pro day!

Drew Stanton didn't have his best throwing day at the MSU pro day in East Lansing this week. That said a source from one NFL team told me today "In just a few moments with Mike Martz (LIONS OC) you saw him adjust some mechanical/foot issues and he looked great. I think that his being teachable is what will make NFL teams covet him. If a team came in for the first time to watch, they may not have been wowed, but people who came in with him high on their radar had to like to see him. Ryan Leaf had talent, but not it. I can tell you Stanton has "it" and talent. Who knows what that works out to be in the NFL, but he has the tools and the outside factors a team want."

MSU DT Cliff Ryan had a very good day. I had two scouts tell me that they really like the package that Ryan is or can develope to be. "Cliff Ryan can be a real beast. Again I hate to rip on MSU but he and Stanton are two kids that you have to wonder how good could they have been? If you watch Ryan on film when he had Stripling (FMR MSU Dline coach now at UM) he was one of the best rising stars and everyone had him on their radar. After that he suffered from coaching. I can tell you and all your Spartan friends this: you don't see kids not improve with your new coach. In fact, I will go one farther. You will see kids in the future that Dantonio gets to this point (NFL Pro consideration) that had no purpose being that good. He makes kids better. NFL teams learn what programs have nuggets and kids that make squads and don't get all the hype. I can't imagine what MSU will do with him (Dantonio) he is a star." That was a different NFL scout.
