This past Saturday brings the same results as years past in the State of Michigan.

One team woefully under performs losing a game they should have won. One dominates in all facets of the game and wins easily.

One team has a team that is prepared, ready and business like. One team has coaches that look lost, players that don’t have discipline and opponents dancing on their field in celebration.

One team had stupid penalties under control and looked like a thing of precision while the other racked up nearly as many penalty yards as I have excess pounds.

One team’s fans walked out proud of their team and had hope for a great season. The other team’s fans walked out furious with a coach that was in the doorway of a final season, all but pushing him out and seeing a hopeless season ahead.

One team celebrated when the game was over, one cried.

One team made the state of Michigan proud while one embarrassed it for the ages.

This time however the roles were reversed! The rebuilding process is FAR from over but if you are not a long standing and long suffering member of the Spartan Nation you will never appreciate it or understand it like we do. Saturday allowed us fresh hope. Saturday was a sign that although there are still dark rebuilding clouds on the horizon that hope springs eternal and the Spartan Nation can see cracks in the proverbial Maize and Blue dam.Â

No, we are not at UM level yet. No one expected that on one game. Where we are at is on the road with a fresh set of tires, a full tank of gas and our rival (albeit way ahead) is breaking down. Same old results as years past, this time the roles have changed. Hey Wolverine fan, how does it feel now?Â

We should have NEVER lost to CMU once, let alone twice. To this day it still hurts me. You trumped us! You lost to a 1-AA team. Don’t ever bring up CMU again because all of us Spartan fans will simply pull up our MSU shirts to reveal an undershirt of our second favorite team: Appalachian State!

UM will get their wins, we all know it. For today the Spartan Nation doesn’t declare we are there, or that the journey is now equal. The only thing we are declaring is that, “We are Sparta!”
