Week Seven was a quiet one for the Spartan men among the NFL ranks. Two enjoyed a bye week on Sunday, and four of the nine who did have games did not see any playing time.

 

Wideout Keshawn Martin and the Texans crushed an injury-depleted Ravens squad by a score of 43-13. Martin was targeted twice, but did not have any receptions. The rookie also returned four punts for nine yards and one kickoff for 17 yards.

 

Domata Peko recorded one tackle and three assists for the Bengals, as his team fell to Cincinnati’s hated division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-17. The seven-year veteran has 25 total tackles and one sack so far this season for the 3-4 Bengals.

 

Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins did not see any action for the Redskins, as Robert Griffin III and the Washington offense fell short on its final drive in a 27-23 loss to the rival Giants.

 

Bears tight end Kellen Davis reeled in one pass for three yards in Chicago’s 13-7 Monday Night Football victory over the Lions. The experienced playmaker has seen an increased role in the Bears’ offense this year. He has nine catches for 132 yards and a touchdown on the season. As he told Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun Times: “I’m feeling good. [I’m] just trying to do the things that I’m asked to do so that I can expand my role as much as I can be.” Chicago offensive coordinator Mike Tice would also like Davis have an increased role on offense: “Kellen has worked extremely hard, and we’re trying to make sure we have some big things for him each week in the passing game,” said Tice. “We think he’s a big blocker. The 4-3 Packers stayed hot and earned a win on the road against the Rams, 30-20. Green Bay defensive tackle Jerel Worthy tallied one quarterback hit on the day.

 

Tight end Garrett Celek continued to see playing time for the 49ers and fellow teammate Trenton Robinson was not active in San Francisco’s 13-6 win over the Seahawks.

 

Quarterback Andrew Luck and the Colts managed a narrow 17-13 victory over the Browns on Sunday. Drew Stanton, a backup to Luck, was not active for the contest.

 

Injury Report:

 

The injury bug has hit many Spartans hard. Brandon McKinney is out for the year with a torn ACL, Javon Ringer is out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury, Eric Smith did not play against the Patriots this week due to a sprained knee and Kyle Cook remains out with an injured ankle. Cook, a center for the Bengals, was eligible to practice this week (as per the new injury-recall list he was placed on earlier in the season) but did not. He still has to walk with a crutch and a walking boot, so he will be out for the considerable future. He is eligible to play on November 4th, but will not be healthy in time. When asked about a timetable for his return, Cook directed reporters to Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis.
