Spartan Hockey Releases 2018-19 Schedule

EAST LANSING -- The Michigan State hockey program and head coach Danton Cole have announced the Spartans’ complete schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season, which will begin October 12. Times and television designations will be announced separately closer to the start of the season.

The 34-game schedule includes 10 non-league games, eight of which will take place prior to the beginning of conference play. After hosting the University of Windsor in an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 7, the Spartans will officially begin the season Oct. 12-13 when they meet Northern Michigan at Munn Ice Arena. It will be the Wildcats’ first trip to East Lansing since the 2012-13 season.

The Spartans will make their first road trip of the season when they meet 2018 ECAC champion and NCAA Tournament participant Cornell in Ithaca, New York, Oct. 26-27. It will mark just the eighth and ninth meetings between the programs and first since 2005.

November will be MSU’s busiest month of the year with nine games and it will start with a home-and-home set vs. Ferris State, Nov. 2 in East Lansing and Nov. 3 in Big Rapids. The following weekend, the Spartans will head West to meet Arizona State in the first-ever meetings between the programs, Nov. 9-10.

Michigan State hosts 2018 league champion Notre Dame, Nov. 16-17, to open its Big Ten schedule and will travel to Minnesota over Thanksgiving weekend to meet the Gophers, Nov. 23-24.

Michigan will make its only visit to East Lansing on Friday, Nov. 30, and the Spartans will complete the home-and-home set the following night in Ann Arbor, Dec. 1.

After a trip to Wisconsin, Dec. 7-8, the Spartans will host the U.S. National Team Development Program U-18 team on Dec. 15 in an exhibition.

The 54th annual Great Lakes Invitational will take place at Little Caesars Arena on Dec. 30 and 31. MSU will meet Lake Superior State in the second semifinal game on Dec. 30 at 4 p.m., and then take on either Michigan or Michigan Tech the following day.

The Spartans start the new calendar year at home against Ohio State, Jan. 4-5. They’ll also host Minnesota at Munn during the month, Jan. 18-19, sandwiched between trips to Penn State, Jan. 11-12, and Notre Dame, Jan. 25-26.

Munn Ice Arena will be the site of four more home games in February, beginning on the first two days of the month when the Spartans host Wisconsin.

MSU and Michigan will meet for a second time in Ann Arbor on Feb. 8 and then the following night will square off in the “Duel in the D” at Little Caesars Arena. The Spartans’ final home games of the season will be Feb. 15-16 against Penn State.

The Spartans will get their bye-week in the final weekend of February and then go to Ohio State, March 1-2, to end the regular season.

The Big Ten Tournament will begin with the best-of-three quarterfinal series, March 8-10, as the second-, third- and fourth-seeded teams will each host a series. The semifinals will be March 16 and the championship game on March 23, all played at campuses of the higher-seeded teams.
