Heading into Friday's match, Missouri Wrestling announced that the team would have a limited lineup due to illness and injury this weekend. It was also stated that the Tigers are focused on getting healthy for the Big 12 Championships next month.

The Tigers forfeited the 125-pound match without their starter, Noah Surtin, in for the weekend.

No. 21 UNI redshirt sophomore Julian Farber (133) defeated freshman Drew Stanfield (133) 11-1. Stanfield came on the mat strong and was able to keep up with Farber in the first period. However, by the second period, it was apparent he used up a lot of that steam, and Farber was able to keep Stanfield down for the majority of the second and third periods.

Missouri did have an upset during the FloWrestling Match Watch at 141 pounds. No. 22 redshirt sophomore Josh Edmond defeated No. 7 UNI junior Cael Happel 4-3.

Edmond came out in the first period looking for hits against Happel and kept the match moving into the second. Edmond got a knee block to stop Happel from the takedown to start the second period and secured a takedown to secure the win for Missouri.

In a close match up at 149 pounds, UNI redshirt sophomore Adam Allard overcame redshirt sophomore Joel Mylin 6-5.

Mylin improved from last week with a quick start to the first period with a takedown and a two-point near fall. The match featured the importance of the new takedown point change, with the two tied 5-5 heading into the third. Allard was able to get the one-point escape to defeat Mylin.

Following Mylin the Tigers dropped the next five matches.

  • 157 - No. 9  Ryder Downey (UNI) over James Conway (MIZ) 12-5
  • 165 - Jack Thomsen (UNI) over Jeremy Jakowitsch (MIZ) 14-4

To close out the dual, No. 5 redshirt senior Zach Elam (285) wrestled No. 13 UNI redshirt senior Tyrell Gordon. After three overtimes, Elam secured the victory for the tigers, 4-1. Elam remains undefeated for the 2023-24 season, 21-0.
