Frost Looks Ahead During Difficult Week

Contents
Two days after firing four assistant coaches on offense, Scott Frost said it's been a difficult week for him and the players alike but that "they're going to give their best effort in these last two games."
The Nebraska football head coach spoke after Wednesday morning's practice, the last one of the bye week before practices resume Monday for the Nov. 20 game at Wisconsin.
"They’re hurting," Frost said of the players whose position coaches were let go. "I'm hurting. ... The guys we let go are really good coaches and even better men."
Frost announced the interim replacements for the four. All were elevated from the Huskers' ranks of analysts and other non-coaching staff:
| Interim | Pos. | Former |
|---|---|---|
Steve Cooper | QBs | Mario Verduzco |
Ron Brown | RBs | Ryan Held |
Frank Verducci | OL | Greg Austin |
Mike Cassano | WRs | Matt Lubick |
Frost said he's been "wearing myself thin trying to run the offense and call the offense." The next coordinator, he said, must be someone he can trust and will be more fully in charge, though Frost said there would be no "wholesale changes" in the offensive scheme.
“We’re early in the stages of identifying people," he said, but "there's a lot of people with jobs in other places, and I imagine nothing can be done until after the season is over."
