Why he chose Northwestern:
When Johnson visited campus in early 2020, he immediately felt the support of the program’s coaches and players. “It’s like a brotherhood,” he told 247 Sports. “Everyone watches out for everyone. It’s all love. [Where] I come from, family is very important, and seeing that made me really like it.” Johnson also noted that beyond the team, Northwestern is “one of the most prestigious schools in the country, and you’re playing Big Ten football — there’s not much more to say.”

Evaluation:
Though recruited as a cornerback, Johnson’s size and athleticism have made him a key player on both sides of the ball.
At six feet tall, Johnson can easily go head-to-head against opposing receivers. In fact, he finished his junior year at North Central with 62 tackles, four interceptions and seven pass breakups. Though he only logged 35 tackles and one interception his senior year, he honed his speed on offense where he recorded 54 receptions for 728 yards and seven touchdowns, as well as three rushing touchdowns.
As a varsity basketball player, Johnson has also learned to translate his explosive, twitchy movements on the court to his game on field, allowing him to stay with—and beat out—receivers along their routes.
Playing time projection:
With both starting cornerback roles up for grabs, Johnson faces four upperclassmen and a fellow freshman who are also vying for the top two spots. While this sets the stage for some healthy competition, nothing is holding Johnson back from becoming a key contributor to the Wildcats' defense.
