Notre Dame To Face First-Time Opponent In Latest SI Bowl Projection

If the latest Sports Illustrated bowl projections hold up, Notre Dame will face a Big 12 opponent for the first time

The latest round of bowl projections are leaning heavily towards a Notre Dame vs. Big 12 situation. Yesterday we discussed the intriguing matchups presented by ESPN, and now Sports Illustrated is making a similar projection.

SI's Michael Shapiro has Notre Dame heading to the Camping World Bowl, where the Fighting Irish will matchup against Kansas State.

Last week, Shapiro had the Irish heading to the Orange Bowl to take on Wake Forest. This week the Orange Bowl will be a matchup of Notre Dame opponents, with Virginia and Georgia squaring off.

The 7-2 Irish are now projected to play the Wildcats (6-3), who are coming off a hard-fought 27-24 loss at Texas. It would be the first time Notre Dame and Kansas State have faced each other on the gridiron.

Bill Bender of Sporting News is the only major projection that still has the Irish in a New Year's Six Bowl, with Bender projecting Notre Dame to the Cotton Bowl to face Memphis (8-1).
