Revisiting the 2019 Ohio State Football Schedule - Part 1

Looking back at summaries of each Buckeye game throughout the 2019 schedule.

Before (hopefully) commencing another season of Ohio State football, we take a look back at a summary of the 2019 schedule. Here is a quick glance inside the opening six games of last season to begin our three-part weekend series!

Florida Atlantic (W 45-21): OSU led 28-0 after the first quarter but Lane Kiffin’s squad kept fighting, adding two chip-shot field goals before halftime and then scoring a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Justin Fields had a strong debut by completing 18 of 25 passes, accounting for 295 yards and a combined five TD’s.

Cincinnati (W 42-0): A methodical blowout. Luke Fickell pulling off an upset in his return maintained a little weight early, as Ohio State only led 7-0 approaching the midway point of the second quarter. However, the Bucks scored three-straight times before intermission and casually added a pair of nine-play TD drives in the second half. OSU finished with a 508-273 edge in total offense and held the Bearcats to 3 of 14 on third down.

Indiana (W 51-10): Another mild start for the Buckeyes in Bloomington had them leading just 7-3 during the second quarter, bet the floodgates soon opened. OSU rattled off 23 unanswered points, including a defensive safety, and never looked back. Damon Arnette delivered the punctuation mark with a 96-yard interception return on the game’s final play. J.K. Dobbins racked up 193 yards on the ground.

Miami Ohio (W 76-5): Staying with the similar theme of starting slow, the Redhawks oddly led 5-0 after a short FG and Justin Fields fumbling in the end zone for a safety. Fields responded with a ridiculous six touchdowns in the second quarter alone (four passing, two rushing) and the route was on. The 76 points nearly matched the 77 they scored against Oregon State to begin the 2018 campaign. Ohio State outgained Miami 601-130 that day.

Nebraska (W 48-7): A road trip to Lincoln saw the Bucks build a 38-0 lead by halftime, and ultimately lead 48-0 before the Huskers hit the scoreboard in the closing minutes. Dobbins rushed for 177 but Master Teague III ended up scoring twice from the backfield. Another dominating effort by the defense saw seven tackles from Malik Harrison and Baron Browning.

Michigan State (W 34-10): The Spartans, ranked No. 25 at the time, trailed 17-10 leading into halftime before Ohio State quickly posted 10 points in the final three minutes of the second quarter. MSU never scored again in a rather uneventful second half to begin a five-game losing streak. The Buckeyes walked away with a lopsided 323-67 rushing advantage.
