Buckeyes Ex Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Undergo Wrist Surgery

The start of former Ohio State Buckeyes standout Jaxon Smith-Njigba's NFL career could be delayed due to injury

Unfortunately for former Ohio State Buckeyes standout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, it appears that the start of his rookie season could be delayed.

According to multiple reports on Tuesday, Smith-Njigba is set to undergo wrist surgery and could be out for multiple weeks. However, the possibility remains that he could be ready for the start of the regular season, should everything go well in his recovery.

Smith-Njigba suffered the injury last weekend in the Seahawks' preseason matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

Even though he has yet to take a single snap at the professional level, the excitement around Smith-Njigba is understandably high. With three other talented receivers drafted in the first round, Sports Illustrated raised the question - which one will have the biggest impact this season?

“Smith-Njigba will have both D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett with whom to share targets," Sports Illustrated writes, "while (the Chargers' Quentin) Johnston will have a similar situation with entrenched veterans Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.""(Zay) Flowers will have Odell Beckham Jr. and Rashod Bateman to compete with, and (Minnesota's Jordan) Addison will be a distant second fiddle to perhaps the best receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson."

For Smith-Njigba, sharing the field with one of the NFL's best receiver duos in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett could limit his production. … and so could surgery on the wrist, which he injured last week in the preseason win over his hometown Dallas Cowboys.

Seattle isn’t ruling out JSN for Week 1, and of course there is reason for patience. Last season, the Seahawks’ vet pair combined for 2,081 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 174 receptions. … so the production in the Geno Smith-led offense should be there even without Smith-Njigba getting early opportunities, if indeed that is the Ohio State star’s early fate.
