Ohio State's Cade Stover a Pro Football Focus Top-10 TE in 2023

Coming off of a big season, Ohio State Buckeyes tight end Cade Stover is earning praise from Pro Football Focus

The Ohio State Buckeyes had one of the most explosive offenses in college football in 2022, and despite losing star quarterback C.J. Stroud, are expected to do so yet again in 2023.

A major part of that formula will obviously be the new starting quarterback, who at this moment, could be any one of the trio of Tristan Gebbia, Devin Brown and Kyle McCord.

Luckily for whoever does take over under center, there will be plenty of weapons around them, including at tight end, where Buckeyes standout Cade Stover is set to return as one of the top weapons on the offense.

But according to Pro Football Focus, Stover is not just one of the top weapons on the Ohio State offense, but the No. 7 returning tight end in the entire country.

Said PFF:

7. CADE STOVER, OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

Unlike (Benjamin) Yurosek, Stover has no such issues as a run blocker. He made five big-time blocks this past season (PFF’s highest-graded blocks), which was tied for fourth among Power Five tight ends.

Working against Stover as a receiver is the fact that he plays with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, the two best returning wide receivers in college football. He still impressed as a pass catcher, though, as his 110 receiving yards after contact ranked 11th among Power Five tight ends.

Last season, Stover flew under the radar to a certain extent thanks to the plethora of offensive firepower, yet still managed to have a big season catching 36 passes for 406 yards and five scores.

However next season, with the Buckeyes breaking in a young quarterback under center, Stover's elite talent at the already quarterback-friendly tight end position could pay even bigger dividends.
