TreVeyon Henderson Sounds Off On Ohio State QB Kyle McCord

Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord received strong praise from Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson leading up to their battle with Notre Dame.

Leading up to an important game, it's imperative that a team has trust in one another. That's especially true when it comes to a team's confidence in its quarterback.

For Ohio State's junior gunslinger Kyle McCord, it seems his teammates are confirming that notion of reliability in their signal caller.

Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson spoke with reporters this week about McCord's development so far this year.

“The last week of camp, I just noticed something different about him, man,” Henderson said. “He came in more confident, more relaxed, I just saw that grow each and every week. He’s getting more comfortable in leading this offense."

"He's a great leader," reiterated Henderson.

Sentiments like that will do nothing but build confidence in McCord, who is entering just his second game as the full-time starter. He's had time to watch both Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud blossom before him, and head coach Ryan Day is hoping that the New Jersey native will be able to do as well.

Week 4 will pose his toughest challenge yet, though, in an extremely veteran Fighting Irish defense. It'll also be in the rowdy road environment of Notre Dame Stadium, which could pose additional troubles for any inexperienced QB.

Henderson's words of confidence will no doubt bolster McCord's nerves, but what the snap taker really needs from his running back is to produce on the field this weekend.

Henderson's rushed for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns through three games this fall. If he can up the yardage and add a score or two on the ground in this one, his quarterback should be in pretty good position to manage the game.

Strong running will take a lot of constraint off the passing game and allow their prolific pass catchers to get open, as well as instill some physicality in the offensive line. Notre Dame will likely be pushing hard to pressure McCord, and the Buckeyes will need to be ready to counter that attack.

This weekend's primetime matchup between Ohio State and Notre Dame is set to kickoff at 7:30 PM ET at in South Bend, where ticket prices have already skyrocketed to see these undefeated powerhouses duke it out.
