Buckeyes Commit Jeremiah Smith Leaving No Doubt as No. 1 WR Recruit

2024 Ohio State wide receiver commitment putting on a show early in 2023

It should come as no surprise, yet it's still impressive to see it play out week after week.

Another showcase event, and another head-turning performance from Jeremiah Smith. The class of 2024 wide receiver and Ohio State verbal commitment out of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna drops jaws wherever he shows up at this point.

It was the case yet again last weekend at the Pylon 7-on-7 event in the Orlando area much as it was at the Battle event in Fort Lauderdale the weekend prior. Playing with the South Florida Express ala plenty of Buckeyes before him like Brandon Inniss and Carnell Tate most recently, Smith again wowed en route to leading his team to a tournament crown.

The one-handed catches and flash plays have always been visible via the 6-foot-3, 185-pound specimen, but he also works incredibly well on routine plays, showing polish and most importantly production on Friday nights and offseason settings alike.

"Jeremiah Smith was the best player at Pylon Orlando, no question about it," said Fan Nation's Brian Smith, who has scouted Smith in south Florida as long as anyone in the industry. "He simply outmaneuvered the opposition with his natural skills and trained wide receiver skills.

"Jumping over defensive backs for a score, running by them, or stopping suddenly to create space -- Smith flashed his brilliant all-around skills during three consecutive contests."

A mid-December verbal commitment to Ryan Day, Brian Hartline, and the Buckeyes, Smith was fresh off of a state championship run with Chaminade. While Miami and plenty of other programs will continue to push for a change of heart in the coming months, there hasn't been an indication of other programs' chances for a flip increasing.

"It would be quite an upset for the Buckeyes to not eventually sign him," Smith said this week. "After communicating with Smith for two weekends in a row, he’s made it clear he plans to play his college football in Columbus, Ohio. He's also a great young man, humble and respectful...

"Ohio State will be gaining one of the nation’s biggest impact recruits."

Smith is currently ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver recruit on three of the four major national outlets in the industry, with ESPN tabbing him second at the position to his prep teammate and fellow Ohio State target Joshisa Trader.
