Kelvin Gilliam To Commit On August 22

Four-star defensive end from Highland Springs heavily considering Oklahoma

Add Kelvin Gilliam to the list of Sooner defensive targets with a decision date.

In a tweet posted Thursday evening, Gilliam announced that he’ll make his collegiate decision on August 22. The four-star defensive end is heavily considering Oklahoma, and previously informed SI Sooners that he’d had conversations about rooming with Caleb Williams at OU. He’d be the Sooners’ fourth addition at defensive end in the 2021 class, joining Ethan Downs, Clayton Smith and Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge.

Gilliam’s announcement comes just a day after Beggs safety Kendal Daniels, the Sooners’ top in-state target among 2021 prospects, tweeted that he’d be committing on August 1. Gilliam’s high school teammate Damond Harmon, who’s also considering the Sooners, is also scheduled to commit on the 1st. Evidently, the month of August could bring a boon on the recruiting trail for Alex Grinch and his staff.

Gilliam and Harmon have expressed a desire to play alongside one another at the collegiate level, and it’s not out of the question that Norman could be the rendezvous spot for the two Highland Springs standouts. Oklahoma has placed particular emphasis on recruiting the DMV area, as evidenced by their fervent pursuit of Williams and uncommitted wideout Jalil Farooq. Gilliam has stated that he talks to the Oklahoma coaching staff weekly.

Come August 22, Sooner Nation will find out whether those conversations were enough to sway Gilliam to Norman. In the meantime, Daniels’ and Harmon’s announcements will remain the more immediate focus.
