OSU Basketball: Cowboys Have One Final Opportunity to End Season on High Note

Playing No. 20 BYU, Oklahoma State could sweep the regular season series and avoid a five-game losing streak.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are facing one final opportunity to close out the regular season snapping their losing streak. Evidently, the team seemed to be turning things around during a two-game win streak -- defeating Cincinnati and BYU in back-to-back matchups.

After those two games, the Cowboys hosted the Oklahoma Sooners in round two of Bedlam -- the game that is seemingly the last of the series in the near future -- which ended in a game-winning loss.

Taking a soul-crushing defeat to the Sooners as the hands of a Javian McCollum 3-pointer with time expiring, the Cowboys have seemingly gone off the deep end. The Big 12 basketball conference is incredibly unforgiving, and there's not going to be a single night where a game comes easy to Oklahoma State.

Following the Bedlam loss, the Cowboys have lost an additional three games. They're riding a four-game losing streak into their regular-season finale, which comes against No. 20 BYU on the road.

Winning on the road in the Big 12 is an incredibly tall task, and doing so against a team they've already taken down this season makes the challenge that much more difficult.

The Cowboys have already upset the Cougars once, though, and doing it again could be huge for the program. Right now, Oklahoma State his no momentum in their favor, and they need even a sliver heading into the offseason.

With a final regular season matchup on Saturday, Oklahoma State's young roster has one final opportunity to impress and build on some momentum, which could help Mike Boynton's case to return as the head coach.

Returning the young roster will be important if Boynton is to stay around, and defeating BYU to end the regular season on some sort of high note could be huge.

Currently, the Cougars are likely to be a double-digit favorite on their home floor, and that doesn't fare well for Oklahoma State. Playing spoiler in that scenario against a team that is going to be playing in the NCAA Tournament could give the program a sliver of life heading into the offseason.
