Oklahoma State is losing its first walk-on to the transfer portal.

OSU guard Naz Brown entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, joining Javon Small and Brandon Garrison. Although his name had not come up much, a move for Brown looks to be the right choice.

Brown played in 10 games as a freshman but never saw the floor much. In those 10 games in 2022-23, he played 20 total minutes.

His only points with the Cowboys came at West Virginia in his freshman season. He scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in the loss.

Brown finished his career at OSU with more turnovers than points, assists or rebounds. While the lack of playing time contributed to those numbers, his chances of playing never materialized in the moments he had in mostly garbage time.

Despite his already limited playing time and OSU’s struggles, Brown never saw the court in the 2023-24 season. Instead, he served as the scout team point guard.

Before coming to OSU, Brown earned all-district honors in all four years of high school, which were split between Coppell High and LD Bell High School in Texas. While at Coppell, Brown played with 2023 NBA lottery pick Anthony Black.

He also played AAU for coach Shawn Ward, who is a close friend of former OSU coach Mike Boynton. Considering his potential ties to Boynton before coming to Stillwater, Boynton’s firing might have influenced Brown’s decision to enter the portal.

As the Cowboys’ coaching search continues, more players could enter the portal, making for a more eventful offseason. Of course, using the portal to get players to Stillwater will be an essential tool for whoever the next coach is.

After a 12-20 season and a coaching change, the future of OSU basketball is up in the air, but this offseason could heavily shape the next few seasons.
