While the Oklahoma State Cowboys football teams is trying to nail down a few names for their Class of 2027, they're already laying the framework for their Class of 2028.

One of the most important parts of the process are official visits this fall. Many junior recruits that Oklahoma State is targeting will make official visits during the football season.

That includes an in-state defensive target named Carter Akin, who announced two of his official visits earlier this week. There's meaning in both visits for the Cowboys.

Carter Akin’s Upcoming Official Visits

Per his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Akin announced that he will be making an official visit to Tulsa on Sept. 5 and to Oklahoma State on Nov. 14.

The visit to Oklahoma State on Nov. 14 makes a lot of sense. The Cowboys will host the Texas Tech Red Raiders and that game could be Oklahoma State's biggest home game outside of its Sept. 12 contest with Oregon. One could argue if OSU was in the Big 12 Championship game race that game could be a bigger contest.

The Sept. 5 game at Tulsa is the Golden Hurricanes’ home opener. The opponent? Oklahoma State.

Yes, Akin has managed to land two official visits and OSU is involved in both games. That could tell us something about how he looks at the Cowboys.

Akin did the camp circuit this summer with stops at Oklahoma State and Tulsa, so an invitation to both schools for an official visit really isn't a surprise. There is also an obvious connection for the younger Akin. His father, Zac, played for Oklahoma State and graduated in 2001. His son landing with the Cowboys wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

So, he'll get to see the debut of the Eric Morris era as head coach and he'll get to see quite possibly the program's biggest game in the regular season, depending upon how things shake out in the first nine contests. That should give the younger Akin a great barometer to determine if committing to the Cowboys next summer is in his best interest.

He enters his junior season at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City coming off a 2025 in which he had 166 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. The 6-2, 205-pounder is playing both linebacker and safety but likely projects as a safety for now, depending on how he fills out the next two seasons.
