Cowgirls Fall to Colorado After Rough Fourth Quarter

Oklahoma State struggled in the fourth quarter on the way to its first loss of the season.

Colorado beat OSU 86-75 in Boulder to move OSU to 2-1 this season. OSU played in a back-and-forth game but ultimately could not overcome a late surge by CU.

CU defeated the defending national champions, No. 1 LSU, in its first game. OSU kept the game close throughout, but its stellar 15-of-28 shooting from outside was not enough.

Anna Gret Asi led the Cowgirls in scoring with a 25-point performance. She shot 9-of-17 from the field, including six 3-pointers, along with two steals and a block.

After a 3-pointer from Asi made it a two-point game with just more than four minutes left, CU went on an 8-0 run to extend the lead. Up by 10 with two minutes left, CU never was in danger of trailing again and held off any OSU attempt at a comeback.

To break a tie early in the third quarter, Quincy Noble and Lior Garzon nailed a couple of 3-pointers. OSU used that spurt to take a six-point lead and would not trail again until early in the fourth quarter.

That run had one of Garzon’s five 3-pointers as she finished with 17 points. But she was also one of five Cowgirls with at least three turnovers, an area they struggled with all evening.

The Cowgirls led at halftime, thanks to performances from Stailee Heard and Asi. Both played 19 minutes in the first half and combined for 24 of the Cowgirls’ 39 points.

OSU slowed down CU’s Frida Formann, who led the team in scoring in the upset against LSU. Formann went for 11 points and shot only 1-of-8 from 3-point range

Jaylyn Sherrod played well for the Buffaloes, setting her teammates and being a menace defensively. She finished with nine assists and five steals against the Cowgirls.

OSU’s schedule does not get any easier with matchups against Penn State and Ohio State up next.
