The Ole Miss Rebels walked into the wasps nest that is Lindsay Nelson Stadium this weekend and had mixed results. Gunnar Dennis struggled, Liam Doyle shined, and Grayson Saunier struggled on the mound as well.

Here are three takeaways from the weekend in Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Run Ruled Twice

The Rebels came into the week looking to compete against one of the top teams in the country. Back in 2022, Tennessee came into Oxford and swept, so the Rebs were looking for a little revenge.

While the Rebs took the Saturday game, the Volunteers outscored Ole Miss 30-7 on Friday and Sunday combined. Tennessee might have the deepest lineup in the SEC, and their ballpark might be the most hitters-friendly park in the SEC.

The Rebels just need to flush it and turn the focus to this next week of action.

Liam Doyle Is A Dude

Liam Doyle provided a huge spark this weekend with his 10-strikeout game in Saturday's win. Doyle managed to bounce back after giving up a two-run bomb early and went on a tear that showed why he is a legit SEC ace.

It will be interesting to see if Mike Bianco will toy with the rotation again after rough outings from Dennis and Saunier. Doyle will be a candidate to man the Friday night role with red-hot Kentucky coming into town this weekend.

Andrew Fischer Does It Again

Another series, another multi-homer game for the Fisch. Andrew Fischer remains a mainstay in the two-hole for the Rebs, even after Bianco switched the lineup around on Saturday.

Fischer looks to be playing the role of villain well with the long ball and his good defense. Look for Fischer to continue to be a leader on this team push everyone else in the clubhouse, especially after dropping a series this weekend.

The Rebels open a four game homestand with Austin Peay on Tuesday then take on the Kentucky Wildcats next weekend who are 5-1 in SEC play.
