Ole Miss Men's Basketball Receives Commitment From Transfer Forward Mikeal Brown-Jones

The Ole Miss Rebels and Chris Beard landed their first transfer portal commit of the offseason on Saturday.

OXFORD – The Ole Miss Rebels men’s basketball team has landed its first transfer portal commitment of the offseason, as former UNC Greensboro Spartans forward Mikeal Brown-Jones pledged to Chris Beard’s squad on Saturday morning, according to On3.

The senior chose the Rebels over the Pittsburgh Panthers and Kansas State Wildcats and is currently rated as the No. 20 overall player in On3’s portal rankings. Jones averaged 18.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season for the Spartans. He earned first-team All-Southern Conference honors this season after shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc while also blocking one shot per game.

Jones previously shot 29 percent from the three-point line in 2022-23. The Bradenton, Fla., native would have led the Rebels in three-point percentage this past season.

In two seasons at UNCG, the 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward averaged 14.3 points and 5.8 rebounds. Jones spent the first two years of his collegiate career suiting up for the VCU Rams.

Beard has started his 2024 portal class with a bang by landing a veteran forward who has continued to progress as a scorer every year. Beard and the Rebels are starting to pick up steam this offseason, as they also announced that senior guard Jaylen Murray will be returning for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday. Senior forward Jaemyn Brakefield will also be returning to Oxford for his final year of eligibility.
