SWEET 16 BOUND: Ole Miss Women Upset Stanford, Advance in Big Dance

The Rebels are now at the second-deepest point in the NCAA Tournament in program history.

STANFORD, Calif. -- For the first time since 2007, the Ole Miss Rebels women's basketball program is in the Sweet 16.

The Rebels upset the No. 1 seed Stanford Cardinal 54-49 on Sunday night, keeping that powerhouse program out of the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2007, as well. Ole Miss was led in scoring in the upset win by Angel Baker with 13, and Marquesha Davis (12) and Madison Scott (11) joined her in double digits.

The game came down to the wire with Stanford tying the score at 49 late in the fourth quarter, but key defensive plays by the Rebels secured some pivotal free throw opportunities that gave coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin's team the win on the road.

Now, the Rebels' attention turns to the winner of (5) Louisville and (4) Texas on Monday. Ole Miss will face the victor in that game on Friday in the Sweet 16.

In total, this season marks Ole Miss' ninth trip to the Sweet 16 as the program reached that point every season from 1985-90 and again in 1992 and 2007. The Rebels did not reach the NCAA Tournament again after the 2007 season until 2022 where they were eliminated in the first round of play.
