Morning Report: Rebels Offer Illinois QB Commit Trey Petty

Ole Miss extended an offer to a 2024 QB out of Mississippi on Wednesday night.

Today is July 27, 2023, and here's the news you need to know out of Oxford.

1. Ole Miss extended an offer to 2024 QB Trey Petty on Wednesday night.

Petty is currently an Illinois Fighting Illini commit, but the quarterback hails from Starkville (Miss.) High School. The Rebels have had decent success snagging players from Starkville in recent memory, so we will see if Lane Kiffin is able to flip his commitment in the coming days. Petty shared the news on social media on Wednesday.

It's also possibly of note that in his photo choice, Petty selected former Ole Miss quarterback Luke Altmyer who came from Starkville High School and now plays for Illinois.

2. One college football analyst believes Ole Miss is a quarterback decision away from being "scary" in the SEC this season.

An analyst from On3 recently said that the Rebels' quarterback decision this season is crucial and could make a big difference in the team's ability on the field. You can read more here.
