Ole Miss Hires Lou Spanos As Defensive Analyst

The Ole Miss Rebels added some significant experience to their defensive staff on Thursday

The Ole Miss Rebels made a significant, albeit under-the-radar move on Wednesday, hiring former longtime college and NFL defensive coach, Lou Spanos, as a defensive analyst, per reports.

Spanos now joins the Rebels' new look-defensive staff under coordinator Pete Golding, that is looking to make some serious improvements in 2023.

Before heading to Oxford, Spanos was defensive coordinator at UConn from 2019-2022, where he also served as the team's interim head coach in 2021.

Spanos resigned as the Huskies' defensive coordinator prior to the 2022 season.

He worked with Golding under Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2018 as an analyst, for a team that finished as SEC champions and national runners-up to the Clemson Tigers.

Spanos, 51, also served as the defensive coordinator for UCLA in 2012 and 2013, helping the Bruins win a Pac-12 South title.

However, Spanos' experience goes far beyond the college game, serving as an NFL assistant for more than 20 seasons.

Spanos began his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team's defensive quality control and assistant linebackers coach from 1995-2009, winning two Super Bowls over that span.

Spanos then became the linebackers coach of the Washington Redskins for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, also spending four years as the linebackers coach for the Tennessee Titans from 2014-2017.
