The No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels reclaimed the Golden Egg Trophy on Thursday night in a sluggish 17-7 road win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, but more importantly, the program achieved history.

The Rebels picked up their 10th win of the season on Thanksgiving Day, and have now won 10 regular season games twice in the last three years, a first for Ole Miss. The Rebels have undoubtedly entered uncharted waters in terms of success under coach Lane Kiffin, who was obviously very excited about the historical win over State.

Kiffin and the Rebels have officially completed their comeback after finishing the 2022 season with a disappointing 8-5 record following a 7-0 start. It got to the point last season where rumors began to circle about Kiffin's potential departure to another SEC West program, the Auburn Tigers, and one WCBI Sports reporter chose to put the rumors to paper.

Jon Sokoloff famously released an article claiming that Kiffin to Auburn was in the works and would be official as soon as the regular season closed. As history recalls, Kiffin did not leave for Auburn and eventually signed a long-term extension, but not before he clapped back and called out the 'false report.'

All of that seems to be water under the bridge now, however, as Kiffin had a special gift for Sokoloff following his third Egg Bowl victory at Ole Miss. Per Brad Logan via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Kiffin gave Sokoloff his visor after the game.

Despite their history, it appears the two have made amends, or are in the process of doing so, and that's a feel-good story you just can't beat on Thanksgiving.
