OXFORD, Miss. -- There is simply nothing like a good rivalry in college sports.

The most-bitter rivalries in sports can define a team's season, and always take precedence over any other game.

247Sports ranked the 11 most-heated rivalries in all college athletics on Sunday, and the annual "Battle for the Golden Egg" between the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs came in at No. 7.

Out of the 11 contests, there were nine football rivalries and two basketball feuds.

Here is the excerpt on the hostile Ole Miss and Mississippi State rivalry.

7. OLE MISS-MISSISSIPPI STATE (FOOTBALL)

This matchup doesn't get the love it should, but the Egg Bowl can break up families in Mississippi — it's that hostile. The annual thanksgiving fight between the Rebels and Bulldogs often determines which one of those teams checks the box on a season that exceeds (or falls below) expectations. In the last decade alone, there have been several memorable moments including Dak Prescott's fourth-quarter comeback and overtime win in 2013, the Rebels' costly "dog peeing" touchdown celebration from Elijah Moore in 2019 and what ultimately was Mike Leach's final game last November (a Mississippi State win).

The Egg Bowl is the biggest collegiate event in the state of Mississippi and could arguably be called the nastiest rivalry in the Southeastern Conference if it got the coverage and hype that the Iron Bowl gets.

Ever since 1944, the game has been played annually and never fails to disappoint if you enjoy the pageantry of college football and the hate that often comes with it.
