Ole Miss’ Tre Harris Named Top 10 Returning WR for 2024 Season

Tre Harris returns to the Ole Miss Rebels as a national name following a breakout season in Oxford.

Ole Miss has a top-10 passer returning for 2024 in Jaxson Dart.

The Rebels also have a top 10 pass-catcher back in Oxford for next fall, at least per Pro Football Focus’ metric

PFF listed Tre Harris as the No. 6 returning receiver for the impending season. One could argue that the 6-1 target belonged the in top five after totaling a career-best 985 yards in his first season on The Grove.

Like [Tez] Johnson, Harris made the jump from the Group of Five level to the Power Five this past season, transferring in from Louisiana Tech. Harris looked even better as a Rebel than he did as a Bulldog. The senior’s 89.6 receiving grade was tied for sixth among FBS receivers this past season and was over nine points higher than his previous mark in 2022 (80.5).

He averaged 3.17 yards per route run in 2023 which was ninth among all receivers in the country. Harris could stand to improve as a route-runner, as he was open on only 28.6% of his targets against single coverage. Still, he enters his fifth season as the clear second-best receiver in the SEC and should have another big year with top-10 quarterback Jaxson Dart returning as well. - PFF

Harris was the first major player to announce he would return to Vaught-Hemingway for the 2024 season. The former Louisiana Tech Bulldog capped off his announcement with a seven-catch, 154-yard outing in a Peach Bowl in over Penn State last December.

From the jump, fans were enamored with Harris' footwork and attention to detail in route-running. He made headlines in Week 1's 73-7 win over Mercer with a four-touchdown afternoon.

Dart, who totaled career numbers en route to a program-defining 11-win season, announced after the Peach Bowl he'd be back for another year working alongside Harris. The duo isn't alone as both tight end Caden Prieskorn and receiver Jordan Watkins announced their intent to return.

Alongside the trio of pass-catchers, Lane Kiffin added South Carolina transfer Juice Wells. In 2022, Wells averaged 13.6 yards per catch and finished with 928 yards as the leading receiver in Columbia.

Wells' addition will take the place of the departed Dayton Wade, but Harris remains the No. 1 threat. He's a favorite to win the Bleitnikoff Award and earn Preseason All-American honors.

Harris’ 89.6 receiving grade from PFF was tied for sixth among FBS receivers this past season and was over nine points higher than his previous mark in 2022 (80.5) at Louisiana Tech.

Harris was one of two SEC receivers mentioned in the returning talent. Missouri's Luther Burden III, who finished second in catches (89) and third in receiving yards (1,212) among SEC targets, was listed as the No. 1 returning playmaker.

Former Texas A&M receiver and current Oregon target Even Stewart was listed at No. 9. Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona), Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), Tez Johnson (Oregon) and Xavier Restrepo (Miami) rounded out the top five.

The Rebels open the season at home against Furman on Aug. 31.
