Ole Miss vs. Georgia Way-Too-Early Game Predictions

The Rebels and Bulldogs will square off in Athens this season. Who takes home the win?

The Ole Miss Rebels have one of the most difficult schedules in college football this season, and a large part of that is thanks to road trips against the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

The Rebels will travel to Athens to face the reigning national champions this season after back-to-back home games against Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.

Georgia was once again projected to finish tops in the Southeastern Conference by the media this preseason, so when Ole Miss hits the road for this matchup, who will come out on top? The Grove Report staff dives in below.

On paper, Ole Miss is a top 15 roster in college football. It’s hard to imagine the Rebels not as an SEC Dark horse, especially if there’s balance at the quarterback position and defensive stability.

Ole Miss is comparable to Penn State in the Big Ten; good enough for national recognition until the big boys come to play. The Dawgs have grown adults barking at little Timmy and his mom when they win, but at least they back it up with two national championships. It’s one of those situation where Ole Miss can be perfect, yet still come up short.

Can Samford Stadium have human-sized muzzles this year at kickoff?

This is part of a fun two-game stretch for Ole Miss. When I say fun, I mean tough. After a battle against an improved Texas A&M team, the Rebels get a road game at Sanford Stadium against Georgia — a place they have won just twice at since 1970.

While Carson Beck will be taking over as the starting quarterback, he has an experienced offensive line, the best tight end in college football, a pair of solid transfer wide receivers incoming to complement Ladd McConkey and a defense that has six first-team Preseason All-SEC selections.

Ole Miss should score some points, but Georgia's offense will just score some more.

The last time Ole Miss played Georgia, Chad Kelly recorded 335 total yards and three touchdowns and the Rebels beat the dawgs 45-14 in Oxford. This season, Ole Miss takes on the reigning national champions on their home turf. There’s a lot of reasons to not like the Rebels going into this matchup, but I’m going to get crazy and take Ole Miss.

The Rebels will have a tough schedule ahead of Week 10 versus Georgia, and if they lose enough games, they may reach the point where they have nothing to lose and surprise the Dawgs on the road. It wouldn’t be a blow out by any means, but Ole Miss will hang with Georgia, a team who is also going through a quarterback competition.

I think Ole Miss will be noticeably-improved on the field this season, but in a matchup like this, I don't think it matters. Give me the talented Dawgs at home.
