Rebel Senior Johnson Helps 2024 Alabama RB Butler Earn Ole Miss Offer

Ole Miss targets emerging Alabama running back recruit

Any time Ole Miss dips into the state of Alabama to target a running back, there seems to be a higher chance that back gives the program more consideration.

Not only does proximity to home and SEC play come into the discussion, but the breakout campaign for Yellowhammer State native Quinshon Judkins does soon after. The Montgomery-area native has pinned the program on the Alabama map more by the carry.

A new prospect at the position learned of the good news from Lane Kiffin's program on Thursday, but it was another current Rebel from the state of Alabama that bridged the gap between each party, per new offeree Derrick Butler himself.

"The only history I have is with their player Cedric Johnson," he told The Grove Report. "I've become a fan through how many times he came up to my school and spoke and taught us about life.

"He was also the one to show my film to the coaches, and then one thing led to another the coaches loved it and offered."

Butler stars at Mobile (Ala.) Davidson High School, of course the same program that produced Johnson. The 6-foot, 190-pound back is in the class of 2024 and is just seeing his recruitment pick up. Ole Miss follows Mississippi State among SEC and Power Five offers.

According to MaxPreps, Butler registered 1,338 yards and 16 touchdowns over 10 games as a junior, adding 115 yards and two more scores as a pass-catcher. As the recruitment picks up, visits will ensue into the spring months.

Ole Miss is expected to get Butler on campus at some point soon.

"I am planning with my parents currently on visiting but they haven't decided a date yet," he said. "I have not planned any visits yet but I will make sure I make my way out there."

Outside of the SEC, Butler has recently added scholarship offers from Marshall, UAB, Liberty, Jacksonville State and others.
