First Look at Penn State's 2023-24 Basketball Schedule

Coach Mike Rhoades gets his first glimpse at the Lions' Big Ten schedule next season.

Penn State's 2023-24 men's basketball schedule began to take shape Tuesday, as the Big Ten announced conference opponents for the upcoming season. First-year coach Mike Rhoades' inaugural Big Ten slate will include home games against most of the league's top teams and a visit to the defending champ.

The Lions will play seven teams in home-and-road series during the 2023-24 season:

  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Michigan State
  • Maryland
  • Minnesota
  • Northwestern
  • Ohio State

Penn State adds home games at the Bryce Jordan Center against Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. The Lions will play road-only games at Purdue, the defending Big Ten champion, Nebraska and Rutgers. Dates and times for the Lions' 20-game Big Ten schedule will be announced later this year.

The Lions finished 10-10 in the Big Ten regular season last year, winning six of their last eight conference games before the Big Ten Tournament. Penn State reached the Big Ten final, falling to Purdue, before winning its first NCAA Tournament game since 2001.

Rhoades is busy rebuilding Penn State's roster after taking over as head coach in March. Five Lions entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, with one player, Jameel Brown, announcing plans to return to Penn State. Rhoades also has landed three transfers so far, including two from his former roster at VCU: Ace Baldwin, Jr., the defending Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and Nick Kern, Jr. Former Temple forward Zach Hicks has signed with the Lions as well.
