Pitt Basketball's Guillermo Diaz-Graham Makes Spanish National Team

Guillermo will stay overseas while his brother Jorge heads back to Pittsburgh to continue workouts with the Panthers.

PITTSBURGH -- A pair of fresh-face Pitt Panthers took a detour from their first college workouts this summer. Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham traveled to Spain this month and tried out for the Spanish U20 national team. Just one of the twins - Guillermo - made the cut, according to a report from George Michalowski of Pittsburgh Sports Now

Yesterday, the Spanish U20 scrimmaged their U22 counterparts. Guillermo played extensively, while Jorge didn't - a hint of the decision that was to come.

Guillermo will now turn his attention to the upcoming U20 FIBA European Championships. They take place from July 16-24 in Montenegro.

Guillermo has experience playing on the international stage. He averaged 11 points on 56% shooting, 5.6 rebounds and three blocks over five games - each of which he started - for the Spanish team at the 2021 FIBA U18 Tournament.

Almost a third of the whole 2022-23 Pitt roster will have spent time in Europe and played against international competition by the end of this summer. In addition to the Diaz-Graham twins, teammates William Jeffress and Nate Santos spent a few days in Greece playing for USA East Coast Basketball against some Greek professional teams and John Hugley
