National Writer Phil Steele High on 2022 Pitt Football

The author of an extensive annual college football thinks that last year's ACC title run was more than a fluke.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers endured a tumultuous offseason in which they lost a record-setting quarterback, All-American receiver, top cover corner and two key members of the offensive coaching staff. They have a lot to make up for, but national writer Phil Steele thinks Pat Narduzzi has plenty of talent returning to get the job done.

As Steele's 2022 college football review hits the shelves of book stores around the country, he's offered some high praise for the 2022 Panthers. He said they are capable of making the College Football Playoff, even though ESPN's Football Power Index gives them a less than 2% chance of pulling such a feat off. He thinks Pitt's 'dominant' offensive and defensive line will drive the team to another run at the ACC title and maybe the Playoff.

Steele still believes that the Clemson Tigers, who suffered a relative down year in which they still won 10 games in 2021, are the best team in the conference and will return to atop the ACC. But Pitt is still a serious challenger and is capable of making noise nationally and in their own league for the second straight season.
