Damar Hamlin Opens as Massive Favorite for NFL Comeback Player of the Year
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers star and current Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin didn't return to the field last season but has made it known he plays to play once again after suffering cardiac arrest during a game in 2022.
The timeline for Hamlin's return is still yet to be determined, but if he steps on the field in 2023, he's nearly a lock for Comeback Player of the Year. So much so, that BetOnline.ag lists him at -105 odds to take home the award this upcoming season.
Hamlin currently sits as the massive favorite, listed at 20/21 odds, followed by Cooper Kupp and Trey Lance at 9/1. From there, Lamar Jackson has 10/1 odds and Calvin Ridley, Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson sit at 12/1 odds.
While the Comeback Player of the Year Award does feature players who's career took a dip in years prior and they turned it around, the highlight of the award most seasons is a player coming back from injury.
In Hamlin's case, returning from a situation that had millions of people watching throughout the night of Jan. 2 is a moment almost no one anticipated during the incident.
