Pickett led the Steelers to a 14-10 record as a starter during his two seasons in Pittsburgh, throwing for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Following an ankle injury, he was benched late last season for Mason Rudolph, who led the team to a surprise playoff berth with three straight wins.
The Steelers added former Broncos and Seahawks star Russell Wilson in free agency this offseason and he was widely expected to win the starting job over Pickett going into 2024.
Pickett is the all-time leading passer in Pitt history. He was named 2021 ACC Player of the Year and a Heisman Trophy finalist after leading the Panthers to their first outright conference championship in program history in his senior season, before Pittsburgh selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
He'll have a chance to backup MVP candidate Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia this coming season and get a fresh start on the other side of the state.
