Pitt Gets Two Defenders Back from Transfer Portal

The Pitt Panthers got some reinforcements from the transfer portal.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers got some good news from the transfer portal this afternoon, when two veteran defenders announced that they would return to Pittsburgh.

Linebacker Brandon George and defensive end Nate Temple, a pair of seniors who entered the transfer portal following the conclusion of the regular season, both announced that they would return for one more season with the Panthers.

George, who joined the Panthers for the 2019 season as a true freshman, has played in 52 games over his five seasons in blue and gold, accounting for 117 total tackles, 11 for loss, two sacks, an interception, and three passes defended.

This past season was his best to date. Coming off a 2022 season in which he was limited to four games because of an injury, he set career-highs in tackles, sacks, and interceptions.

Temple has played in 11 games and started eight in 2023. He's recorded 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He appeared in 26 total games on special teams and at defensive end.

Both players figure to have the inside track on starting jobs heading into 2024. Temple made eight starts this past season and George, while he didn't make a start, will is the most experienced middle linebacker returning next season.
