PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are more than 70 days away from kickoff of the 2023 season but with each passing day, football fans get more eager and the media try to gauge where the winds will carry each team.

CBS Sports' Chip Patterson is one of those media members who has taken a stab at predicting how certain teams will fare and this week, he looked at the ACC. Judging against a win total line of seven for the Panthers, he thinks Pat Narduzzi and company will narrowly beat expectations.

"With turnover at quarterback, the loss of a star running back, multiple key defensive players off to the NFL Draft and three Power Five opponents on the nonconference slate, I was ready to predict an under for Pitt, but seven wins is too low," Patterson wrote. "Even with the losses, Pitt should be solid along the offensive line and experienced on defense. That means the Panthers will likely be favored in two of those three nonconference showdowns. Throw in an ACC draw that lacks Clemson, Miami and NC State, and there's a path to an 8-4 season for Pat Narduzzi's group."

Patterson predicts wins over Wofford, Cincinnati, West Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Wake Forest and Boston College, then losses to Notre Dame, Florida State, Syracuse and Duke.
