Former Pitt S Damar Hamlin Visits White House

Former Pitt Panther Damar Hamlin was in Washington D.C. to advocate for a life-saving bill in Congress.

PITTSBURGH -- The strength and resilience of former Pitt Panthers standout Damar Hamlin was celebrated in the nation's capital this week. As his recovery from cardiac arrest progresses, Hamlin visited the White House to meet with President Joe Biden.

Representing Pittsburgh, Pitt and the Buffalo Bills, Hamlin was in town to lobby for the Access to AEDs Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this week. The bill would establish a grant program to fund the purchase of AEDs, encourage CPR training and develop cardiac emergency response plans in schools.

“Damar Hamlin’s courage, resilience and spirit inspired the American people,” a Tweet from the President's official account reads. “And what’s more: he turned recovery into action – and our country is better for it. It was my honor to have him and his family here today.”

Hamlin visited with Congressional leaders like New York's Chuck Schumer, the Majority Leader in the Senate, to speak about the bill and it's benefits and greet some of the children it would potentially affect. He met with President Biden at the White House the following day.
