PITTSBURGH -- Pat Narduzzi and the Pittsburgh Panthers missed out on a talented defensive lineman this weekend. On Saturday afternoon Devan Houstan, a four-star interior defender from Hagerstown, Maryland, committed to Notre Dame. Houstan held an offer from Pitt and named it one of his top eight schools.

Houstan, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 270 pounds, held offers from a host of Power 5 schools but named a top eight that, in addition to Pitt, included Michigan, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Penn State North Carolina and Northwestern prior to committing. Pitt's 2023 class holds at two commits for the time being -- four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey and three-star receiver Zion Fowler.

Pitt's defensive line, under the leadership of defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, has been one of the nation's best. Since 2019, the Panthers' front seven have combined for 151 sacks, by far the most in the country. Second-place Clemson tallied 134 over that span and third-place Alabama recorded 124.
