Early National Signing Day Capsule: Fred Johnson

South Carolinas Football program has officially received a national letter of intent from Fred Johnson

Fred Johnson, a linebacker out of Virginia, is one of the top 10 linebackers in the country per 247Sports. Johnson was also a part of the Gamecocks big month of June when he announced his commitment on the 17th. Johnson will bring elite length and talent to the Gamecock's defense.

Prospect: Fred Johnson

School: Maury High School (Norfolk, VA)

Projected Position: Linebacker

Size: 6-3 and 225 lbs.

Athleticism: Johnson is another defensive guy who can move, has been timed at 4.5, and will make plays all over the field. His size and speed make him an excellent sideline-to-sideline linebacker.

Instincts: Can make the big plays outside on the edge and, when needed, force plays back inside. It also has excellent closing speed.

Bottom Line: While Johnson is and will be an extremely talented linebacker for the Gamecocks, the sky will be the limit if he can become more consistent between the tackles. However, with his athleticism, he will be someone who can and will push those in front of him; he's that good.
