Stanford Among The Four Standout Schools For 2025 Four-Star QB Bear Bachmeier

As a part of returning to prominence in college football, one of the bigger needs that Stanford is trying to address under head coach Troy Taylor is the quarterback position.

Even despite having both Davis Mills and Tanner McKee behind center who are both on NFL rosters, the program hasn't had a winning season since 2020 and they also haven't had a quarterback surpass the 15 touchdown-mark since K.J. Costello did so in 2018. Part of the reason can be attributed to outdated offenses of the previous regime, but it can also be attributed to the fact that the development at the position wasn't nearly as successful as it once was when Andrew Luck and Kevin Hogan were behind center.

With Taylor now heading into his second year, he finds himself in a similar position as he did ahead of his first, which is conducting a quarterback battle this offseason. Last season's primary starter Ashton Daniels should have a leg up on the others, but four-star freshman and headliner of the 2024 class, Elijah Brown, is expected to make a push after enrolling early as Daniels didn't quite run away with the job.

While Stanford has quite a few overall issues to solve such as their offensive line play, defensive line physicality, and who else will emerge at receiver, they also need consistency at quarterback. The best way to have that is to recruit well and develop. While they already have Brown, former four-star Myles Jackson who enrolled early this past season, and Justin Lamson to push Daniels, Taylor has made it a point to continue to pursue top quarterbacks.

The Cardinal have offered two quarterbacks in the 2025 class, three-star Miami commit Luke Nickel, and four-star Bear Bachmeier. According to a recent report by 247Sports (VIP), Blair Angulo, Stanford is one of the four programs that are standing out in the recruitment of Bachmeier, who is the younger brother of Stanford freshman receiver Tiger Bachmeier.

As indicated on his 247Sports recruiting profile, Alabama and Oregon are also programs that are in the mix with Arkansas also making a push. It is worth noting that Nick Saban was still at the helm when he took his trip to Alabama, and the staff has since changed following his retirement, as offensive coordinator Tommy Rees was his primary recruiter and is no longer in that role.

This past season, Bachmeier threw for 2,613 passing yards and 21 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, while completing 65% of his passes. He also showed the ability to create with his legs, as he rushed for 631 yards and seven touchdowns. The Murrieta Valley product is ranked as the No. 181 player in the country, No. 11 quarterback, and No. 17 player in the state of California according to 247Sports' Composite rankings.

If Stanford lands him, having him and Brown as the quarterbacks of the future could certainly help the program for years to come.
