Stanford Commit Elijah Brown Caps Off Historic HS Career, Viewed As The Answer For The Cardinal
When Stanford was having the most success as a program, on top of dominant run games and defenses, they had elite quarterback play.
They are currently working their way back to having those things, as Troy Taylor looks to revive the once-power program. When it comes to the quarterback situation, neither Ashton Daniels nor Justin Lamson showed enough to quiet the buzz about incoming four-star quarterback commit, Elijah Brown. The Mater Dei product just won his second state title on Saturday, as he walked away from high school football with a 42-2 record and had it not been for a shortened COVID year, he could have walked away as one of the most victorious high school quarterbacks of all time.
Coming from a program like Mater Dei that has produced Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, Bryce Young, and JT Daniels, Brown walks away as the only one to win two state titles and simply has a poise to him that Stanford needs.
Brown has a prime opportunity to come to Stanford and compete for the starting gig right away. Taylor's offense often relies on the run game, which Stanford didn't have in 2022, but he also needs someone who can consistently make the right decisions at all times. Daniels led the way and was the far more consistent threat with his arm, but was too willing to just toss the ball up for grabs under pressure, leading to his eight interceptions. Lamson didn't get as many chances to throw, but relies too much on his arm strength and would often force throws into nonexistent windows. He also was used heavily in the run game, and a position change for him could be worth considering due to his hard-nose running ability.
Even if Daniels or Lamson start the season in 2024, it feels as if it's a matter of when, not if, when it comes to Brown taking over.
