On Wednesday, Stanford signed all but one player of their 2024 recruiting class, which depending on your recruiting site of choice ranks in or around the top-25 in terms of recruiting.

Headlining their class is consensus four-star quarterback Elijah Brown out of perennial powerhouse Mater Dei (CA). A program that has produced signal-callers such as Matt Leinart, Colt Brennan, Matt Barkley, and Bryce Young. However, it is Brown who walks away as one of the most accomplished high school quarterbacks of all time, compiling a 42-2 record as the starter, and winning two state titles.

When meeting with the media on Wednesday, head coach Troy Taylor spoke highly of Brown and even went as far as to compare him to a former quarterback he coached who is now in the NFL. Taylor revealed that Brown reminded him of former Washington Huskies star and current Cincinnati Bengal signal-caller, Jake Browning, who Taylor coached when he was at Folsom High School.

"He reminds me a lot of Jake Browning who I coached in high school," said Taylor. "Similar in that won a lot of games, really accurate the temperament, anticipation all of those things. 42-2 as a starter...just to start four years at Mater Dei High School is quite an achievement."

Taylor continued, discussing how prestigious of a program Mater Dei is and also acknowledged how impressive Brown's success is when you consider he played for a few different coordinators and head coaches. He also revealed why he thinks Brown is special.

"What makes him really special is just his disposition never changes," said Taylor. "He's always the same guy he's just very level there's not a lot of peaks and valleys he just stays right in there and that's how he plays. You don't go 42-2 unless you've got that kind of mental toughness to be consistent. Another exceptional kid, exceptional family he's really special. We can't wait to get him, he's being a mid-year guy, it's gonna be great to get him in and learning the system right away."

The expectation for Brown is to push for the starting job once spring ball rolls around and into fall camp. Taylor also made it clear that Stanford won't be taking in any more quarterbacks, meaning that Brown along with 2023's starter Ashton Daniels, Justin Lamson, and redshirt freshman Myles Jackson will battle it out.
