Stanford lands commitment from 2024 safety Jaylen Sumlin

Stanford lands their fourth commitment in two days

After losing their entire starting secondary from a year ago, Stanford's defense needs some major help from the recruiting ranks in order to add more depth.

Luckily for Troy Taylor he has hired a young and hungry staff that is already making some noise on the recruiting trail. Following a weekend that saw Stanford host nearly 15 official visitors, the Cardinal ended up receiving nine commits. Something that running backs coach Malcom Agnew and Director of Recruiting & Player Personnel Preston Pehrson took to Twitter to celebrate with a series of gifs.

On Monday it started with former Baylor commit Brandon Booker, which the Cardinal then followed that up with commitments from tight Aiden Black, defensive back Khari Reid. On Tuesday, Stanford secured yet another defensive back commitment, this time it came from Sierra Canyon (CA) product Jaylen Sumlin.

The three-star athlete plays both safety and receiver at the high school level, but is recruited by Stanford as a safety. According to 247Sports, he ranks as the No. 1084 player in the country, No. 117 athlete, and the No. 86 player in the state of California. As a receiver this past season he recorded 10 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball he racked up 27 total tackles, a sack, a pass deflection, and a pick.

He was scheduled to take officials to Boston College and Washington State, but according to an article by 247Sports he is no longer planning to take them. With the addition of Sumlin, Stanford's class will jump from No. 35 in the country to No. 33 in the country.

The Cardinal are expected to add more commits this week!
