Stanford QB target Elijah Brown could announce decision 'as soon as next week'

Stanford and UCLA appear to be the two schools in best position to land the Mater Dei quarterback

This past weekend saw 17 recruits visit Stanford for official visits, and to say it was a smashing success would be an understatement.

The Cardinal reportedly landed 10 commits, with six of them announcing their pledge within the last four days. With all of the success on the recruiting trail continuing to build, there is one recruit in particular that Cardinal fans are anxiously awaiting some news on. Four-star quarterback out of Mater Dei, Elijah Brown.

The No. 33 player in the country who is set to compete in the Elite 11 finals next week, Brown offers a beacon of hope for Stanford fans at the quarterback position and based on a report by 247Sports' Greg Biggins; Stanford is definitely in a great position. While recapping the visit, Brown raved about getting a chance to truly connect with the staff, and also discussed how much he enjoyed spending time there with current players.

“The official visit was fun because we got to spend so much more time with the players on the team and the coaches,” Brown said. “On my last visit, the coaches were still new but everyone seemed more dialed in this time around and I really liked it there."

He also provided an update on his recruitment and his other visits, one of which he will not be taking anymore.

“I don’t think I’m going to make it to USC,” Brown said. “I feel good about where things are at with Stanford and UCLA right now and there’s a good chance I’ll make my decision between those two schools."

Something that Stanford fans should feel really good about considering the Cardinal have a much clearer path to being the starting quarterback in comparison to UCLA, whose top recruit in 2023 was five-star Dante Moore. Brown is already one of the most accomplished signal callers in Mater Dei history, and could end up being one of the most successful high school quarterbacks of all time as he holds a 29-1 record as a starter.

If the Cardinal were to land him it could be the most important addition at quarterback for Stanford since Andrew Luck. Brown would certainly help the already thriving staff recruit even more players, and he could also be the solution at quarterback that the program has been missing over the past few seasons.

When it comes to the timing of his announcement, Brown revealed to Biggins that it may be coming up.

“I have a really good relationship with the two staffs and fit in really well there. I’m not sure when I’ll make my decision but it could be as soon as next week.”

A potential massive win for a program who is clearly making strides in the right direction.
